Terms of Service

Welcome to memu lock! These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the memu lock mobile application (the "App") and related services (collectively, the "Service"), operated by studio179 d.o.o. ("we", "our", or "us"). By using memu lock, you agree to these Terms.

Please read these Terms carefully. If you don't agree with them, please don't use memu lock.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading or using memu lock, you agree to be bound by these Terms and our Privacy Policy. These Terms constitute a legal agreement between you and memu lock.

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or by email. Your continued use of memu lock after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.

2. Eligibility

To use memu lock, you must:

• Be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction)
• Have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms
• Not be prohibited from using the Service under applicable laws
• Have a compatible iPhone running iOS 18 or later

3. No Account Required

memu lock does not require you to create an account or provide any personal information to use the core Service. The app operates entirely on your device. No photos or personal data are transmitted to our servers.

The only data we collect is limited to subscription management (if you purchase memu lock pro) and, through our website, optional email addresses for the Android waitlist. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

4. Screen Time & App Blocking

memu lock uses Apple's Screen Time API and Family Controls framework to intercept and temporarily restrict access to apps you select. By using this feature:

• You authorize memu lock to use Apple's Screen Time API to apply restrictions to apps you designate
• You acknowledge that this feature requires granting Screen Time permissions, which you can revoke at any time in iOS Settings
• You understand that memu lock functions as an intervention tool, not a parental control or absolute restriction. The app includes a skip option for situations where you choose to bypass the challenge
• You are responsible for the apps you choose to block and for any consequences of restricting access to those apps

memu lock does not guarantee that app blocking will be effective in all circumstances, including iOS system updates or changes to the Screen Time API.

5. Photos & Camera Roll Access

memu lock requests access to your photo library to surface memories for the quiz mechanic. Regarding your photos:

• Your photos never leave your device. All photo access and processing occurs entirely on-device
• We do not upload, transmit, or store any of your photos on our servers
• We do not analyze your photos for advertising, AI training, or any purpose other than powering the quiz within the app
• You can revoke photo library access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos
• memu lock uses photo metadata (date and GPS location embedded in the photo) solely to generate quiz questions

6. Acceptable Use

You agree to use memu lock responsibly. You may not:

• Use the Service for any illegal purpose
• Attempt to circumvent, reverse engineer, or tamper with the app's screen time enforcement mechanisms
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to our systems
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code
• Use automated systems (bots, scrapers) to access the Service

7. Subscriptions & Payments (memu lock pro)

memu lock offers an optional premium subscription called "memu lock pro" with additional features.

Billing

• All purchases are processed through the Apple App Store
• Prices are displayed in your local currency and may vary by region
• Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period
• You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings

Free Trial

memu lock pro includes a 1-week free trial for new subscribers. You won't be charged until the trial ends. If you don't cancel before the trial expires, your subscription will automatically start and you'll be charged the applicable subscription price.

Price Changes

We may change subscription prices from time to time. Price changes will take effect at the start of the next billing period after notice is provided. If you don't agree to a price change, you can cancel before it takes effect.

Refunds

Refunds are handled according to Apple's App Store refund policies. We cannot issue refunds directly. You must contact Apple for refund requests.

8. Streaks

memu lock features a streak system to track your daily engagement. Here's how it works:

• A streak is earned by completing at least one memory challenge per calendar day
• "Day" is defined by your device's local time zone
• We do not guarantee streak accuracy in cases of technical issues, though we'll try to resolve problems fairly
• We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the streak system at any time

9. Intellectual Property

Our IP

The memu lock name, logo, app design, mascot, and all related trademarks, content, and technology are owned by studio179 d.o.o. and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not use our trademarks without written permission.

Your Content

Your photos remain entirely yours. memu lock does not access, copy, or transmit your photos. We claim no ownership or license rights over any content from your device.

Feedback

If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ideas about memu lock, you grant us the right to use them without compensation or attribution.

Third-Party Trademarks

Apple, the Apple logo, iPhone, iPad, and iOS are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. App Store is a service mark of Apple Inc. Instagram, TikTok, and other app names referenced in marketing materials are trademarks of their respective owners. memu lock is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of these companies.

10. Termination

By You

You can stop using memu lock at any time by deleting the app. Since no account is required, there is nothing further to delete. If you've purchased memu lock pro, cancel your subscription through your Apple ID account settings before deleting.

By Us

We may suspend or terminate access to the Service if:

• You violate these Terms
• Your use poses a security or legal risk
• We are required to do so by law
• We discontinue the Service (with reasonable notice)

11. Disclaimers

memu lock is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to:

• Merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
• Non-infringement
• Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of content
• Uninterrupted, secure, or error-free operation
• Effectiveness of app blocking features, as iOS system changes may affect functionality

We don't guarantee that memu lock will meet your expectations or that any errors will be corrected. Use the Service at your own risk.

12. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law:

• memu lock shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
• memu lock's total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose, or $100, whichever is greater
• These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory (contract, tort, or otherwise)

Some jurisdictions don't allow certain warranty disclaimers or liability limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless studio179 d.o.o. and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Service or your violation of these Terms.

14. Dispute Resolution

Informal Resolution

Before filing a formal dispute, please contact us at hello@getmemu.com. Most issues can be resolved quickly and informally.

Arbitration Agreement

If we can't resolve a dispute informally, you and memu lock agree to resolve any claims through binding individual arbitration, rather than in court. This means you waive your right to a jury trial and to participate in class actions.

Exceptions

Either party may bring claims in small claims court if eligible. Either party may seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual property infringement.

Opt-Out

You can opt out of the arbitration agreement by emailing hello@getmemu.com within 30 days of first using the app, with your name, device identifier, and a clear statement that you wish to opt out.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Slovenia, without regard to conflict of law principles. If arbitration doesn't apply, you consent to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Slovenia.

16. General Provisions

• Entire Agreement: These Terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and memu lock.
• Severability: If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in effect.
• Waiver: Our failure to enforce any provision doesn't waive our right to enforce it later.
• Assignment: You may not assign your rights under these Terms. We may assign our rights to a successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
• No Third-Party Beneficiaries: These Terms don't create rights for anyone other than you and memu lock.
